 Yuyao has 207 schools, including 148 primary schools, 37 junior secondary school, 9 senior secondary schools, 12 vocational high schools and 1 special education center. There are about 130000 students at school and 6300 teachers and staff. In recent years, local government attaches great importance to education. The reform on education is constantly achieving new breakthroughs and the educational undertakings is making sustained and rapid progress. Preschool education has further development and secondary education is universalized on the basis of ¡°Two Basic¡±. Yuyao's various kinds of educational quotas are firmly ahead top 3 in Ningbo . It is one of the first provincial ¡°Powerful Education Counties¡±, experimental districts of China 's continuing education of primary and secondary school teachers and experimental counties of Zhejiang 's quality education. Last year, the coverage of powerful education towns (counties) was 100%. So far, there are 8 provincial key schools, 2 provincial A-level senior secondary schools, 20 provincial demonstration schools and 39 Ningbo modernized schools in Yuyao. In year 2004, the total amount of the equipment in every schools is more than 120 million RMB, which is over 100 million yuan for the first time. The amount of computers in primary and secondary schools is 10395, and the proportion of students to computers is 11:1, which go beyond the provincial requirement of 18:1. Campus net has been set up in 30 primary schools and 34 secondary schools. Schools in Yuyao have 542 various kinds of multimedia equipment (containing multimedia classrooms), 105 closed-circuit television systems, 351 voice equipment and 254 computer labs. The total book deposit reaches 2395000. The standard of the educational modernization has further risen.
 Yuyao educational undertakings has made great strides in 2004: secondary education is basically universalized; the entrance rate of the children aged 7-12 has achieved 100%; the coverage of compulsory education of students aged 15 is 99.9%; the completion rate of secondary education for those aged 17 is 98.5%; the rate of school dropout at lawful age is strictly controlled under 1% and there is no dropout in primary schools; the rate of entrance to kindergarten among the children aged 3-5 is 112% and it basically fulfills the needs of people in urban and rural areas. After two peaks of the graduates of junior secondary schools, the operation of secondary high school has been overloaded. Through local government's efforts, senior secondary schools and vocational schools have an enrollment of 4993 and 5403 students. The proportion of entering schools of a higher grade in high schools is 91.2%, and it is 48:52 of senior secondary schools to vocational schools. These two targets are one of the best accomplishment in Ningbo . Now, there are 25444 students in high schools, which increased 64% compared to the year 2000. Especially, the continuous enrollment of the students on agriculture specialty is 150 in No.2 Vocational School in 2004. The total number of the students on this major has increased to 370, which becomes a luminous spot in Zhejiang Province .
 Also in 2004, the ability of vocational and adult education which serves the economy has increasingly strengthened in Yuyao and it shows the regional features day by day. Firstly, the initial success in founding key specialties. The government advanced the philosophy which is closed to the local industry and sustained specialties of schools according to the characteristics of the industrial structure. The amount of enrollment which is concerned with the manufacturing industry is about 35% of the total enrollment, especially in the special field of mechanism, mould manufacturing, mechanical and electrical technique, electronics and information technology. There has been 5 provincial demonstration specialties which make every school have its own focal points and brand. Secondly, the initial form of the joint education between schools and enterprises. 5 vocational schools under the municipal government have drawn out cooperation programs on the students' training with enterprises concerned. Meanwhile, some schools start training programs to fulfill the needs of enterprises. Yuyao Vocational and Adult Education Central School and Zhejiang University start classes on advanced studies of enterprise management. The Urban Vocational School first set up the training system on e-commerce, which become the first national skills certification station on this program. It also starts e-commerce training classes for the proprietors and marketing staff in the Plastic Town . Thirdly, the training of the peasants who lost land. The government devotes major efforts to develop training in some adult schools with Labor and Social Security Bureau, some towns and residential districts concerned. So far, the local government has about 20 kinds of skill training of 1200 peasants who lost land and 2700 migrant who moved from the mountainous areas on security personnel, household management, cooking and electricians.
